Women’s Ordination Foundations – A Two-Part Series

Moving forward from our 50th anniversary celebrations, WOC has updated and refreshed our online resources about women’s ordination, from myth-busting to church teachings to how we strategize to create the change we seek. Join us for one or both of two online sessions about the foundations of being an advocate for women’s ordination.

Part 1 – October 13, noon ET: Learn how we answer the question “Why ordain women?”, common myths and ways to bust them, and about the rising levels of support for women’s ordination throughout the church.

Part 2 – October 26, noon ET: Learn about what the church has said and taught about women’s ordination, what the “state of the question” is within the institution today (including with deacons!), and about WOC’s strategy for enacting change.

Anti-Racism Retreat with Leslye Colvin:

“Faithful Women Advancing the Work of Decolonization and Anti-Racism”

Women and non-binary people are invited to join Catholic writer, contemplative activist and certified spiritual director, Leslye Colvin, for a free virtual daylong retreat to help prepare for the Season of Advent. Please see the flyer below for a more detailed description of the event.

WOC50 Conversation Circle: Exploring Dr. Natalia Imperatori-Lee’s Keynote
November 16, 8 p.m. ET

As WOC moves into a future beyond 50 years, we are creating expanded opportunities to gather, network, and learn together in order to deepen our efforts in the movement for ordination justice. In November, we’re offering an opportunity to reflect on and discuss the powerful keynote lecture from WOC50 from Dr. Natalia Imperatori-Lee. In her speech, “Deep Roots, Emerging Blossoms: Lessons from 50 Years of Feminist Advocacy at the Women’s Ordination Conference,” Dr. Imperatori-Lee used powerful metaphors of gardening, the uses of “rot,” and “winter interest” to reflect on where the movement has been and where it is invited to continue to grow.

Her keynote will be made publicly available on the WOC YouTube channel and website starting November 1. Watch (or re-watch) her speech online, spend time with our reflection questions, and then join us on Zoom to reflect and orient ourselves towards the horizon of justice we continue towards.
