2. Apply for the Bishop Murphy Scholarship for Women in Graduate Study in Theology!
As part of WOC’s commitment to a renewing priestly ministry, we have created a permanent scholarship fund. We award $1000 annual scholarships for female WOC members in seminary and diocesan certificate programs. We encouraged you to join WOC and apply!
Candidates must provide:
· A letter of recommendation from a mentor who can testify to the candidate's commitment to WOC's goals
· Personal statement of how her future ministry supports WOC's mission
· Resume or Curriculum Vita
· Proof of enrollment
Scholarship funds should be applied to educational expenses. Recipients are required to submit a report at the end of the grant period explaining how the award impacted her study and growth. Application materials are due January 30, 2007 . Scholarships awarded June 2007.

3. Sign the post card of St. Therese of Lisieux, patron saint of women’s ordination and mail it to WOC’s office.
To honor St. Therese of Lisieux, we have sent our members a postcard to sign and send back to us. We will deliver the postcards to the bishops at their November meeting in Baltimore, Md. You can express your call to a renewed priestly ministry, or your support for women’s ordination into a renewed priesthood.
These cards will show the bishops in a tangible way that the vast majority of women’s ordination supporters will remain quiet no longer! Once you receive the postcard, please complete and send it back to us today!

4. Witness at the USCCB next November 12-16 th in Baltimore, Maryland.
WOC’s Ministry of Irritation is planning a prayerful protest to occur outside the bishops’ Mass on Sunday, November 12 from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm in front of The Basilica of the Assumption (downtown Baltimore). The bishops’ meeting will be held on November 13-16 at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel (downtown Baltimore on the edge of Little Italy). WOC will have a press conference on Monday, November 13. 5. Volunteer to complete the report card on the status of women in your diocese.
Rating the U.S. Dioceses: A Report Card on the Status of Women
Knowing the current status of women in our church is a critical first step to showing Catholics, clergy and the media, the type and extent of oppression that women experience.
We already have volunteers for cities and states like Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Neward, New York city, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Philadelphia, Portland OR, St. Louis, San Francisco, Military Archdiocese and San Juan PR. However, we still need volunteers for Anchorage, Atlanta, Denver, Detroit, Dubuque, Galveston-Houston, Hartford, Kansas City, Louisville, Mobile, New Orleans, St. Paul Minneapolis, San Antonio, Santa Fe, Seattle, Washington DC and Arlington.
The worksheet to fill out is on the www.womensjusticecoaliton.org website. You can get most of the information visiting websites and making phone calls. The new deadline is November 15. Join us at Prospect Park United Methodist Church at the intersection of Malcolm and Orlin S.E. in Minneapolis (across from the Witch’s Hat Water Tower in Prospect Park – 2 blocks south of University Ave.) Light refreshments will follow liturgy.

Women priests Dr. Jane Via, Dr. Victoria Rue and Monika Wyss as the homilist, will co-preside a community Mass in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 3:00pm. This Mass will be held at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood located at 4390 Colfax Avenue Studio City, CA 91604, on the corner of Colfax and Moorpark. A potluck reception will follow. 3. October 18: Memorial Liturgy for Loretto Sister Mary Luke Tobin in Greater Washington area
Sister Mary Luke Tobin was President of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious during Vatican II and played a leading role in the U.S. renewal of religious life. She died on August 24, 2006 at the Loretto motherhouse. She was also one of the few women auditors at the Second Vatican Council and a fervent promoter of church renewal, peace, ecumenism, social justice, and women's rights in church and society . A memorial liturgy will be held on Wednesday evening, October 18 at 7:00 pm, at the Quixote Center, 3502 Varnum Street, Brentwood, MD 20722. The liturgy will be followed by a pot luck supper. Dr. Patricia Fresen, a bishop from the womenpriests movement, will offer a lecture at the Carleton College Chapel at 7:30pm on Thursday October 26. Sponsored by the Department of Religion, Chaplain’s Office, and Distinguished Women Visitors Committee, this event is free and open to the public. 4. November 2: “Catholic – Woman – Priest? Yes!”
Join us for a lively discussion with Bishop Christine Mayr-Lutmetzberger of Austia, an ordained Catholic Woman Bishop who will tell us her story when she visits Cleveland, Ohio. Location: 2345 Lee Road, Cleveland, Ohio at the meeting room on the first floor. Registration starts at 4:30pm and the program at 5:00 to 7:00pm. National Catholic Ministries Alliance (NCMA) presents a day-long seminar...
Bridging the Gap: Gender Equality, Sex and Ordination
As a member of the National Catholic Ministries Alliance, WOC is planning a day-long pre-CTA conference seminar with keynote speakers Anthony Padovano, Andrea Johnson, Christine Mayr-Lumetzberger, Mary Ramerman and more to discuss and promote the movement for an inclusive and renewing Catholic priesthood.
A panel will feature Carmen Lane, Ray Grosswirth, Tom Honore, and Kathy Vandenberg, talking about their individual journeys as women and married men living out their call to a renewed priestly ministry.
