Bishop Patricia Fresen, D.Th. of the Roman Catholic Women Priests, spent 44 years as a Dominican sister in South Africa. She has her doctorate in theology from University of South Africa – Pretoria.
Living and working there, she was painfully aware of racism and its consequences. As a woman in the church, she constantly found herself marginalized because she was a woman. With this background, she is uniquely positioned to address the connection between discrimination by race and gender.
Forced to leave her Domincan community after her ordination to the priesthood in August 2003, Patricia currently serves as the director of formation for the Roman Catholic Womenpriests Program based in Germany and Austria.
