Aisha S. Taylor is the Executive Director of the Women's Ordination Conference (WOC), a national organization based in the Washington, D.C. area that works for Catholic women to be priests and for a more inclusive Roman Catholic Church.
Ms. Taylor has been interviewed about women's ordination live on London Sky News, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, National Public Radio and more. She has been quoted in most prominent newspapers in the U.S.A., including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Washington Post, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, the Seattle Times and more. |
Under her leadership, WOC has continued it's 32-year tradition of leading the call for women priests in the Catholic Church. Ms. Taylor has also built WOC's programs into active and thriving ministries and developed new innovative projects. WOC has begun an anti-oppression initiative with the goal of incorporating diversity and inclusion into all aspects of the organization. Young Feminist Network, a program that equips and mobilizes young Catholic women to integrate faith with feminism, has been re-organized and membership has more than tripled. In addition, NewWomen, NewChurch, WOC's quarterly publication, has been re-designed into an easy-to-read magazine format.
Ms. Taylor was born and raised in Sacramento, California. At the University of San Diego, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities with an emphasis on feminist liberation religious studies. One of her mentors at USD was Maria Pilar Aquino. She was a leader in the student movement for diversity and inclusion, which after three years, obtained an Ethnic Studies major, a diversity general education requirement, and anti-hate crimes training for USD staff and students.
Ms. Taylor is also a diversity and organizational change consultant for Jones & Associates Consulting, Inc., which works to create leaders and human systems that counter oppression through diversity, inclusion and organizational excellence. She has facilitated workshops on a range of topics, including gender issues, conflict management, empowerment, anti-racism, diversity and inclusion.
Ms. Taylor serves on the Board of Directors for NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby and Younger Women's Task Force. She is also a member of the Anti-Racism Team for Call to Action.
