Vocations Sunday Witness on April 22nd

Four adults in front of a black fence, holding signs in support of women's ordination. On April 22nd, as Roman Catholic Church marked the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Women’s Ordination Conference supporters held witness at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore.

As the Church asked its members to welcome God’s “unique story into their lives,” supporters stood as witness to the editing and erasure of women’s stories of their vocation to ordained ministry.

We believe it is time to tell the stories of women’s call to priesthood.

Catholic women are called by God: called to priesthood; called to equality; called to full participation in the leadership of the church. We know these women, we walk with these women, we are these women. For too long, women’s calls have been suppressed, dismissed, or ignored.

As Pope Francis wrote in his 2018 World Day of Prayer for Vocations: Vocation is now! At WOC, we’ve known this for a long time. Now, more than ever, is the time to triumph the good news of women’s call to ministry. Now is the time to respond in faith, moving with the Spirit who breaks down barriers and breathes new life into the people of God.
